Quick start guide: Student login, account and password instructions for teachers
Getting your student accounts set up on your preferred platforms can be a daunting task. This article is here to help you accomplish this on Khan Academy so your students can start learning as quickly as possible.
Key information to know:
-
Try the login method your school normally uses
- Most students sign up or log in with Google SSO or via the Khan Academy Clever tile.
- If students have access to their email inbox, have them use the "Forgot password" option
-
For students under 13 using Google SSO, start with your class join link or code
- They need to create their account with Continue with Google through the class join flow; otherwise, they will asked for their parent’s email.
-
Use existing accounts when possible
- If students have used Khan Academy before, have them log in to their existing accounts instead of creating new ones so their learning progress stays in one place.
- Check with their previous teacher to see which account or login method they used.
- Students can click "forgot password" as well to get a password reset email sent to them
-
If the student is under 13 years old and already connected to your account, you can adjust their password for them from your Roster Tab (resource on how to do this)
-
If you can't find your students' account or get them logged in, submit a request to the Khan Academy Support team.
Please include a list of:- The students' school email address
- Their previous teacher's name or email address, if known
- The login methods you've already tried
-
You can create accounts and passwords for students directly from your Teacher Dashboard
- You can do this by clicking "Add students" from the Roster tab
- Just be sure to download all the passwords when you see this popup!
-
Share out your class code if students are logged in but don’t see your class
- They can enter the class code from their Learner Home.
- This is also helpful for Clever students who haven’t synced into your class.
Below is some additional information based on the different login methods:
If your school uses Google SSO/Gmail:
For students who are under 13:
- Create your Khan Academy class.
- Share the class join link or class code with your students.
- Have students open it and choose Continue with Google to create their accounts.
- Students under 13 must start from the class join flow to create an account with Google. Otherwise, they may be asked for a parent's email address.
For students who are 13 and older:
- Go to khanacademy.org
- Sign up or log in with Continue with Google.
- Enter your class code from their Learner Home.
If your school uses Clever
- Make sure you've installed Khan Academy from the Clever Library and shared your class rosters with us.
- If your classes aren't showing on your Teacher Dashboard, log completely out of Clever and log back in.
- Have students select the Khan Academy tile from their Clever Portal.
- If a student gets into Khan Academy but doesn't see your class, have them enter your class code from their Learner Home. This can help if they haven't synced into the class as expected.
See Getting started with Khan Academy in the Clever Library for more information.
What if my student forgot their password?
- Student under 13 and already in your class: You can reset their password. See How can I adjust a student's settings, such as their username or password?.
- Use Google SSO: Have them try Continue with Google.
- Use an email and password: Have them select Forgot password? See How do I reset my password?.
Why is Khan Academy asking for a parent's email?
This can happen when a student under 13 tries to create an account with Google outside of a class join flow.
- Give the student your class join link or class code and have them choose Continue with Google from there.
Still having trouble?
