What are the Community Guidelines for Khanmigo?

Updated

Khanmigo’s Community Guidelines explain how to use Khanmigo in a safe and responsible way.

Khanmigo is Khan Academy’s AI tool designed to support your learning. You can use it in different ways, including tutoring, classroom activities, and assessments (through Khanductor, our AI assessment facilitator).

Following these guidelines will you get the most out of Khanmigo while keeping your learning experience safe and effective.

Note: If you're a student connected to a teacher or parent, please keep in mind that they can  view all your Khanmigo interactions.

How can you use Khanmigo effectively?

Be clear and specific with your questions

  • When asking Khanmigo a question, be as clear and specific about the topic as possible.
  • Provide the necessary information and context to help Khanmigo understand what you're asking for. This will help ensure that you receive an accurate and helpful response.

Check multiple sources

  • Khanmigo is a helpful learning companion, but it shouldn’t be your only source of information.

  • When possible, check textbooks, class materials, or other trusted resources alongside Khanmigo’s responses.

Practice critical thinking

  • When using Khanmigo to learn or solve a problem, don’t just accept answers at face value. Take time to understand the reasoning and make sure it makes sense to you. This helps you build deeper understanding and stronger problem-solving skills.

  • Even though your chats are private to you and your teacher and/or parent, Khan Academy is never the place for inappropriate conversations.

Using Khanmigo for non-educational purposes

  • Khanmigo is designed to support your learning, not do your work for you.

  • Keep conversations focused on learning and educational topics.

  • Using Khanmigo to cheat, complete assignments on your behalf, or avoid doing your own work is not an appropriate use of the tool. Khanmigo should be used to help you learn, practice, and build understanding.

  • Content deemed inappropriate by our moderation system may be rejected or flagged.
  • If you're a minor, your teacher or parent will be notified about any flagged messages over email.
  • We do not store images to protect your privacy. However, if an inappropriate image is uploaded, your teacher or parent will receive an automated alert that includes a detailed description of the image’s content.
  • Violating the guidelines can lead to temporary or permanent loss of access to Khanmigo.
  • If you believe your access was restricted by mistake, you can submit an appeal form.
