Why was my Khanmigo conversation flagged?
Khanmigo uses technology from OpenAI to detect potentially harmful content in conversations. This system will flag any conversation that it thinks might be inappropriate.
There are a number of topics and words that it could flag, but you can consider a conversation that would be inappropriate to have within earshot of an elementary school classroom to be inappropriate to have on Khan Academy. If it doesn't meet that standard, it might have been flagged.
That said - like so much of this technology, our moderation system is new and we know that it won’t always flag things consistently with these guidelines. This is partially because the Khanmigo moderation system optimizes for performance, cost-effectiveness, and user safety - the tradeoff being that sometimes it incorrectly flags topics which should be allowed. While we know this can be frustrating, we think that having a safe, fast, and low-cost Khanmigo experience is best for the overall community.
We are also constantly reviewing the content that Khanmigo flags and regularly updating our processes when we see opportunities.
