Khanmigo acts like a virtual tutor, guiding you through academic learning with hints, questions, and explanations. Its goal is to help you develop critical thinking skills, deepen your understanding of Khan Academy content, and grow as an independent learner.
Following these guidelines will help you use Khanmigo safely and effectively.

How can you use Khanmigo effectively?
Be clear and specific with your questions
- When asking Khanmigo a question, be as clear and specific about the topic as possible.
- Provide the necessary information and context to help Khanmigo understand what you're asking for. This will help ensure that you receive an accurate and helpful response.
Check multiple sources
- Khanmigo is a powerful learning companion, but it shouldn't be your only source.
- Always verify information by consulting textbooks, articles, or other trusted resources alongside Khanmigo’s responses.
Practice critical thinking
- When using Khanmigo to learn or solve a problem, don’t just take the responses at face value. Practice critical thinking and try to understand the reasoning behind the response. Doing this will help you understand the concept more deeply and boost your problem-solving skills.
What is considered misuse of Khanmigo?
Using any kind of inappropriate or offensive language or images.
- Khan Academy is a global learning community for users of all ages. It should always feel safe and welcoming.
- Do not use violent, sexual, hateful, illicit, or otherwise inappropriate language or images.
- Even though your chats are private to you and your teacher and/or parent, Khan Academy is never the place for inappropriate conversations.
Sharing sensitive or private information
- Do not share private photos or personal details with Khanmigo.
- Protect your privacy by keeping conversations focused on academic content.
Using Khanmigo for non-educational purposes
- Khanmigo is designed to help you learn and grow, not to complete your work for you.
- Cheating or trying to get Khanmigo to do your classwork for you is considered a non-educational use of it.
What happens if my conversation gets flagged?
- Content deemed inappropriate by our moderation system may be rejected or flagged.
- If you're a minor, your teacher or parent will be notified about any flagged messages.
- We do not store images to protect your privacy. However, if an inappropriate image is uploaded, your teacher or parent will receive an automated alert that includes a detailed description of the image’s content.
- Violating the guidelines can lead to temporary or permanent loss of access to Khanmigo.
- If you believe your access was restricted by mistake, you can submit an appeal form.
