How can we help?

If my child is younger than age 13, what login options are there?

Updated
We are committed to protecting children's privacy and have built security measures to protect children interested in using Khan Academy.

If a child younger than the age of 13 attempts to create an account on Khan Academy, the page following the signup screen will prompt them to submit a parent's email address. We will notify the parent at that address with additional instructions to create the child account.

If a child younger than the age of 13 wants to create an account on Khan Academy, there are currently three options:
  • A child's parent or legal guardian can create a child account by visiting khanacademy.org/parent. The parent can then click the Add your child button. The parent account is automatically tied to the child account and will become his or her permanent coach.  Some features are restricted on child accounts to help protect the child's privacy.  Parent accounts require email logins, but the child accounts associated with a parent account do NOT require separate email addresses.
  • The child's teacher can create an account. Many schools use Google Apps for Education, which allows managed accounts that the school controls. These Google accounts can be given to students under the age of 13.
  • The child can create an account by themselves. While creating their accounts, these users will be asked to enter their parent’s email address. Parents will then receive an email asking to approve the child account within 7 days
