Can I set up the Assignments before students put in the class code

You can assign as long as you have one student in the class (you can be a student in your own class for now).  When others enter, you will get a message when you open the class that says something like "You have 5 new students" with a button to make the current assignments active for them.  So one click does all assignments.  Just check regularly because the students won't see the assignments until you do that...maybe even tell them that when you give out the code.

To be a student in your own class, get the code for the class.  Then click your name in the upper right and choose Learner Home.  Choose Teacher at the bottom on the left and enter the code.  This way, you can always see the student view of things...very handy!

I have been hitting that button when others join the class but it reassigns the lessons to all and looks like it wipes out progress some kids have already made. How can I keep results of kids who signed up earlier and still assign the lessons to those new sign ups?

I've never had that button do anything but assign to the new students.  There has never been any effect on existing students or scores.  If this happens to you, I would use the Report a Problem up next to your name to send it to the tech people.

I've never been able to enter my name as a student so that I can pre-enter assignments. After I click my name I am taken to a page where when I click Learner Home, I am suddenly on a page that wants to collect info on my education status so khan can send me assignments. 

So, this did not help me, though it certainly roused my interest in being able to see the pages as the students do.

If those don't answer your questions, I wanted to share another option that’s recently opened up for people who need help getting started with Khan Academy, or have general questions about the site.

Khan Academy has a partnership with NWEA (another education organization), and some of their employees have graciously volunteered their time to help people out during this time.  However, these volunteers are not Khan Academy support experts, and they don’t have access to support tools.  That said, they do have some experience using Khan Academy and can help you find an answer to your question or walk you through situations that you might be finding confusing.
