Khan Academy + Google Classroom Gradebook Integration
Greetings,
I am a middle school mathematics educator in an underserved urban community and Khan Academy is one of my favorite tools for helping students fill gaps in their learning in preparation for Algebra. Middle schoolers are still learning the skills and value of self-evaluation, and I find that an appropriate use of Khan Academy supports their development in this regard as well.
But transferring grades from Khan Academy to Google Classroom is so tedious I haven't really been able to keep up with it for over 100 students, and so Khan Academy has been relegated to a "here's a resource for you if you are self-motivated" place, which is not particularly common in middle school. I'd love to use Khan Academy more, but my students need some level of accountability to get the best use out of it, and currently it is very time consuming to do this.
Gradebook Integration with Google Classroom would revolutionize the effectiveness of Khan Academy and allow educators to focus on providing quality differentiated instruction in the classroom. I've seen this feature requested numerous times by educators over the past 5 years and it still hasn't been implemented. The technology exists with other platforms--why hasn't this been implemented with one of the largest learning platforms out there yet? Can we please have grade book integration with Google Classroom?
Here are some of the most frequent ways I like to use Khan Academy with grading accountability:
- Complete this lesson and video and achieve proficiency level.
- Master this unit.
Some of the more unique and complex ways I'd love to use it would be to create a 'differentiated assignment,' where students have different lessons/units assigned in Khan Academy that are graded as the same assignment in Google Classroom. This further feature would make it so much easier to differentiate effectively for 100 students at once.
Many thanks for your consideration,
A passionate teacher.
