Bots on KA (with suggestions on how to deal with them)
So, if it wasn't evident enough, bots are a serious problem here on KA.
Bots have become more and more common these days, causing a lot of annoyance and frustration. Spam bots, vote bots, you name it. On top of that, it's been 3 days in a row when someone botted on KA. Honestly, I feel like the KA Devs aren't doing enough about this situation. I know that they put in that required email thing, but that's clearly not enough. The Devs should take more action against bots.
I've made a list of suggestions for the Devs to prevent, or at least slow down, bots on KA. A lot of these suggestions will slow down legit users and annoy them slightly along with bots, though. I don't really care if you use my suggestions or not; I'm just putting them out there.
- Implement reCaptcha v3 in the account-creating process.
- Make it so that reCaptcha v3 pops up whenever a user votes (programs and comments) or comments.
- Reduce how many times a user can vote per hour. The current limit is 10. I'd say to reduce it to 4 or 5.
- Prevent users from making the same comment twice in a specific time period.
- Prevent a user from making more than 2-3 accounts using IP addresses (I say 2-3 accounts and not 1 because some people have alt accounts, so it isn't fair to those people).
Also, I have 2 potential suspects on who botted today and the last 2 days. I'm not going to say who I suspect here though, because I don't want to spark any arguments here.
