That’s correct. Khan Academy switched from the handwriting tool to a popup keypad in April 2018. I think that this is mostly a good thing because I got a lot of problems wrong when my handwriting input didn’t get read properly.
But there are some issues with the new popup keypad. I just got finished telling someone in another message that when two different variables are required for input, such as “x” and “y”, the intended method of entering them by manipulating the same key does not work. It makes doing these types of problems within the app useless, with a corresponding need to switch to the iPad web browser or a computer to do the problems on the web site.
Also, concurrent with the replacement of the handwriting tool by the popup keypad in the app were some changes to the sketch pad/scratch pad that degraded the user experience. These include the removal of the Undo tool, the inability to scroll the sketch pad/scratch pad, the inability to keep the computed answer in front of you when it comes time to enter the answer, the removal of “Send Feedback” from the question page, and the return of the selected color to black for each new problem instead of keeping the selected one for the previous problem in this set.
When I complained about this degradation of the user experience using Report a Problem at the top of this page, to the left, they wrote back to me and said they were done to IMPROVE the user experience. NONE of the changes I mentioned in the previous paragraph have improved the user experience!
