Leader Board? (energy points ranking)

Sounds pretty cool. I think it would be cool to have percentiles. For example:

John Doe
200,000 points
53th percentile

I disagree. Khan Academy is a website for learning, leaderboards aren't helpful in educating students

they should make it a option for people who are worried about privacy. So you can decide if you wan't your name on the list

I would also like to some of the ideas implemented.

The "gaming" aspect of Khan University is it's strongest aspect. Mastery Challenges. Energy Points. A Leader Board is the natural next step. I would like to clarify, however, that it would be a world leaderboard or an age leaderboard. Having a leaderboard for a physical classroom is just a bad idea.

I don't want Khan Academy to turn into a gaming-type site. They are everywhere and they have; ads, distractions, flashing lights etc. Just a thought

If nothing else, I think it would be cool to see how rare badges are. It would be cool to click on a badge that me or my son just earned and be able to see how many of those badges have been awarded.

Something like: You are ranked #7 in this class and #10 in all three of your teacher's 8th Grade classes.

The 2nd piece of that would have to be both optional as well as set up by the teacher, of course, but might well provide additional incentive to students.

That would be cool, adding more competitiveness to Khan. Once I was on a website for math. It had a leader board, and I was 2cd place! The guy in 1st was someone in 5th grade while I was in 3rd. It really pushed me to try to beat him. Never did, moved to Khan :P

That would be awesome! And mabye they could also do that with student profiles too.

This would be SO useful to me! I totally agree with the idea!

Add you and all other students you wish to compare yourself to to a class. Then there is a tool that lets you see who has mastered the most skills, who has spent the most time...etc.

sure, i mean why not it is always fun to see how you rank!

Global and by subject, not in a class.

I think that it may be helpful for some students, but other students should be given the option of privacy.

But as you said you most likely would not be on it. I have to find all the users on KA, then add them to it. Plus I would also have to find everyone who has 5 million+ points. I think an automatic leaderboard would be amazing!

Khan Academy should really implement this idea.

I don't need a leaderboard as much as it would be nice to see where you stand among other KA users based on age, geographical location, profession, etc. 

For example, 50 percentile of users aged 12 in North America. 49 percentile in California, etc

Rhondavw = that's brilliant! It would be inspiring but not so direct as to be discouraging... I hope someone at KA reads your suggestion, and does something like this. Thank you!

Lisa R,  My 10 year was just playing around on the Peak brain training app but was really excited when she compared her results to a lawyer and had scored higher.

I don't want my children getting in a points battle with other avatars but I think feedback in any endeavour is important for progressing. I think kids especially would do well in seeing how fast they can catch up to adult scores.

Also, currently KA doesn't track / award quiz scores - and I don't want them to - so I'm not sure exactly what they would use for ranking performance but maybe just how much subject matter one masters over time would be a nice general yardstick that wouldn't encourage people to just game the points.

I think your idea is great. Many more people would Khan Academy. Also, the leader boards would encourage people to use Khan Academy much more often, to compete. There are two downfall though... 1) Khan Academy would become much more competitive and 2) People who are lower might be depressed. So... the idea is both good and bad.

Over the past few months I've gone all around Khan Academy trying to get every user with 3,000,000 points all the way up to me at 29,300,000 points. Now I don't have anywhere near all the users on KA but I do have around 400 of them. This gives a small example of where you rank according to most of the users on KA. I will for sure make it a program when I find time but as of right now I run the Energy Point Leaderboard here:

I also think that khan academy should do something like this, here is my view on it

I think that khan academy should also have a thing in the "add a teach/parent" that makes it so you can create groups or add friends so people can compete with others,. I also think that you can have a setting on that to hold competitions in the group or through the whole khan academy, you can set the length of the competition and then it can be funner to learn more on khan academy. I also think their should be leader boards in the class or groups or of friends. So then you can see who ranks what, I do disagree with having a global ranking, then its more about getting points not learning.

I think some students thrive off of competition, so this would be great! I also think it would be nice to have a DAILY leader board so that if you're just starting out you can still compete. Otherwise, the top students will already be at the top, and the rest of us will be way at the bottom.
