Hi Kathleen,

The order of students should be the same on the Students tab and the assignment Scores tab, unless you've used the sort filter on the Students page. If this is not the case, could you please submit a support ticket so that we can further investigate this issue?

Additionally, please note that the students are sorted by their display name and NOT by last name. If you wish to have students sorted by last name, you will need to have them edit their display name to be in the Last, First format.

I see this problem mentioned in several comments from 2-3 years ago, but I'm just experiencing the same type of problem for the very first time right now -- after never having had this problem before this year.

My students are listed by last name first for their display names. They show up in alphabetical order (by last name) on the Students tab. But when I go to look at the Activity Overview, they are no longer in that order. Nor are they in first name order. Rather, they seem to be stuck on showing up in the order that they first used for their display names. (Some by last name first, some not.)

YES, I'm having this problem now...I'm try to have students change their "Nickname" to Last, First.

But when I check the names they are different.

I seem to be able to edit the names with no issues now. I go into the class, then to "students", I hover over the student's name I want to change, and then at the far right I see "edit name" displayed; I click on that and change the name. It stays that way, and goes in alphabetical order.  Good luck! 

Yes, Kathleen, thanks for the suggestion. I've been able to do that part, too. It sounds like Mr. Syphrit is having trouble with those changes not saving, which would be frustrating. My own changes to the "last, first" format *are* saving.

But when I return to look at the "Activity Overview," the names are not properly arranged in alphabetical order -- even though they DO show up in the updated "last, first" format. Very strange.

Right now I have a "B" last name showing ahead of an "A" last name. Last week it was 2 *different* students who showed up out of order. The order doesn't track with when they started their accounts, either, so I can't make any rhyme or reason out of it. Hopefully someone from Khan will jump in here and give additional suggestions. . .

I remember having a tough time with it, but someone on Khan's support team was so helpful and fixed it all for me, but I've luckily not had any problems since then. Good luck, Brent!

Yesterday, after my reply, I was able to easily get the Activity Overview page to resequence my students to use alpha order by clicking on the heading for names. Problem solved. (At least for that session. . .) They seem to have been sequenced by default according to a descending order of time on task for the specified period.

(Update:  Just went back to my records right now, and it's the same deal:  the default setting is descending order of practice time. But it's easily changed, at least.)  

But when I first reported this problem, I got no result from clicking the name heading. There was nothing I could do on that page that would fix the sequence. As I said, maybe just glitchy tech that day.
