I had this problem myself when playing Khan Academy videos on Google Chrome on Windows. I couldn't understand why there was no problem with other browsers then I remembered I have a Chrome extension called Disable HTML5 Autoplay. I changed its settings so that it only works on specific sites like YouTube, and that solved the issue.
Re the problem reported above, I'm guessing that Chromebook was disabling HTML5 autoplay automatically.
Disabling autoplay is only supposed to stop a video playing automatically when a page is launched. If you click the play button manually, the video should play. Whereas on Khan Academy, if autoplay has been disabled, clicking the play button has no effect at all. The video is totally unresponsive . Perhaps that could be looked at.

I just ran into this issue too and it turns out that in the Khan video player doesn't work in Chromium based browsers (for example Vivaldi and Brave) unless you enable the site permission "autoplay".
The "regular" Chrome browser has autoplay enabled by default and doesn't even allow users to change this permission anymore. So it should not effect Chrome users unless they are running an older version.
This is obviously a bug since manual play should still work. Which it does on other sites. I've reported it to the support team.
