Update: How mastery percentage is calculated

We've updated how mastery percentage is calculated in Classic Khan Academy.

Your mastery percentage is the percentage of skills in a course or unit that you've reached Proficient or Mastered on. Both Proficient and Mastered skills count for full credit toward your mastery percentage.

For example, if a course has 20 skills and you've reached Proficient or Mastered on 5 of them:

5 Proficient or Mastered skills ÷ 20 total skills = 25% mastery

Skills that are Not started, Attempted, or Familiar don't count toward your mastery percentage.

What does this mean for my mastery percentage?

If you use Classic Khan Academy, you may see your mastery percentage go up or down as a result of this update.

As you continue learning, reaching Proficient or Mastered on more skills will increase your mastery percentage. Keep in mind that skill levels can also move up or down based on your performance as you practice.

With this update, mastery percentage is calculated the same way across the Classic Khan Academy experience and Khan Academy Reimagined.
