How is my mastery percentage calculated?
Your mastery percentage shows the percentage of skills in a course or unit that you've reached Proficient or Mastered on.
Both Proficient and Mastered skills count toward your mastery percentage. Skills at any other level—Not started, Attempted, or Familiar—do not count toward the percentage.
This calculation applies to learners using both Classic Khan Academy and Khan Academy Reimagined.
Using Khan Academy Reimagined? You may see a label that says "X of Y skills to Proficient." Skills at both the Proficient and Mastered levels count toward this number.
How is my mastery percentage calculated?
For example, if a course has 20 skills and you've reached Proficient or Mastered on 5 of them, your mastery percentage is 25%:
5 Proficient or Mastered skills ÷ 20 total skills = 25% mastery
How do I increase my mastery percentage?
To increase your mastery percentage, level up more skills to Proficient or Mastered by completing activities such as:
- Practice exercises
- Quizzes
- Unit tests
- Course Challenges
After completing an activity, you may see which skills leveled up, leveled down, or stayed at the same level.
Keep in mind that skill levels can move up or down based on your performance as you continue practicing, so your mastery percentage can change too.
