Communication Skills
Communication skills is not or just barely taught at schools, especially in the important area of Requesting Criticism/Feedback, the importance of making specific time for it, the benefits and the important social and financial costs of not making it a part of our communications with others.
Further to Communication Skills not being a running subject at schools, and in families, people are not equipped with necessary Questions to ask those presenting/offering criticisms, to begin to generate constructive criticism, so they are ill-equipped to unpack the received criticism/reviews which come as a surprise and are often received with underlying hostility, only because one has not made asking for and receiving feedback and what to do with it, an important part of their communication cycle.
We are also not trained sufficiently at home or at schools on the methods of providing constructive criticism let alone how to identify it when it is occurring or being attempted.
These communication skills are not just necessary at schools between teachers and children but also at home between children and parents, at college, business, friendships etc. Therefore, could you please offer courses on Communication Skills and specifically the importance of criticism/feedback/reviews/peer-review and how it should be handled.
PS: From another site regarding the topic of communication:
"Those who develop strong communication skills do well in school, secure jobs and promotions and often ascend to the highest levels of leadership in corporations, governments and civic life. People who fail to develop communication skills often have their careers stagnate or plateau in the mid-range. Sadly, presentation skills are either not taught in primary or secondary education or are taught poorly. This course covers a vast array of communication needs and scenarios, from how to communicate during a job interview, pitching investors, asking for a raise, speaking one on one or to large groups. And it covers how to speak to big corporations when you have a problem with service, plus public speaking for children, how to deliver a wedding speech and even a eulogy. "
