LGBTQ+ Education (history lesson request)
I believe we should be able to learn about the LGBTQ community history besides the AIds crisis in the 90s. We should learn about things like what happened at the Stonewall Inn
That's a shaky topic to talk about right now, and I think Khan Academy wants to avoid such controversial matters right now.
Khan Academy wants to teach students to think about tough situations and should not be avoiding topics like this.
No, not every instance of LGBTQ+ is preventable. And some don't want to prevent it or change out of it. Tough as it may be, they want to continue the lifestyle that suits them. I have known quite a few same-sex couples over the years, and they are happy with the life they have chosen. At least two people I worked with in my career as an IT professional decided that they needed to become the other gender, and I fully supported their decisions.
As part of our Support Community improvement project, we’re preserving inactive posts that have historical or community value and closing them to new comments. This is one of them!
If this post covers a topic that you’re interested in discussing with the community or requests a feature you’d like to see on Khan Academy, you can try to find an active post about it and add your thoughts (or feel free or create a new post if it doesn’t yet exist in the forum).
