How do I schedule an assignment for a future date?

You’ve previously learned how to create assignments.

By scheduling assignments, you’ll be able to set assignments to go live for your classes on a specific date in the future.

Scheduling assignments from a class’s Assignments tab

Here’s how you can schedule a future assignment from the Assignments tab for any of your existing classes:

Access the desired class on your Teacher Dashboard
Go to the Assignments tab.
Click “Add Assignments", then "Assign Content"

A new screen will pop up that looks like the screenshot below. On this screen, you will:

Select a course from your class's course list

Choose if you want to assign full units or individual content items

Select a due date for the future
Review and assign.
- You can select the students who should get the assignments. You can also add another class, or all classes, to receive the assignments.

Scheduling assignments directly from the course page

You can also schedule an assignment from its specific content page. To do so, please follow these instructions:

Browse our library until you find a course that you’d like your students to work on;
You can either assign all units or individual units
Select the class you'd like to assign to and follow the same flow as when creating assignments from the Assignments tab

If the start date is in the future, the mission will be scheduled to go live on that chosen date.

Note: You need to space out the date for your Unit Mission goals, so they are shown in the correct order to students.

Scheduling assignments directly from the content page
1. Browse our library until you find content that you’d like your students to work on;

2. At the top-right corner of the page, click Assign

3. Select the class you'd like to receive the assignments and follow the same flow as when creating assignments from the Assignments tab

If the start date is in the future, the assignment will be scheduled to go live on that chosen date.

Locating scheduled assignments

Every assignment you schedule will be saved in your class’s Assignments > Click the box with three dots > Edit.

A new pop-up window will appear, and you'll see that the due date is set for the future.

Student notifications

Once the date arrives, your students will see the assignment on their homepage, and they will be notified about the new assignments available for them to complete. Students can find these notifications:

in their email inbox,
on their Khan Academy account,
and, if they’ve downloaded the Khan Academy app, on their phone or tablet.

New students

When new students join your class, they will automatically receive all active assignments. Assignments scheduled for a future date will be sent to new students on the date they are scheduled.
