Khanmigo offers a variety of features built for teachers. Our goal is for Khanmigo to help make your teaching experience both on and outside of Khan Academy easier and more effective.
Here are some ways you can use Khanmigo to help with your teaching:
1. Activities page: The Activities page includes teacher-focused activities such as:
- Create a lesson hook
- Write exit ticket questions
- Create a humanities lesson plan
- Write learning objectives
- Co-create a rubric
- Refresh my knowledge
- Summarize student chat history (Please note: this activity only works for Khan Academy Districts teachers whose students are using Khanmigo as well)
If you have Khanmigo enabled on your account and log in to Khan Academy, your account’s homepage will be the Khanmigo Activities page. You can also access the Activities page from your Teacher Dashboard, simply click the "Activities" link from the Khanmigo widget.
- Khanmigo Student–Teacher Toggle
When viewing a piece of Khan Academy content, you can toggle between Student mode and Teacher mode in Khanmigo by clicking the switch at the top of the chat window. Clicking this toggle helps you to see how Khanmigo would interact with your students.
You'll notice when you're in teacher mode, the text box is purple, but when in student mode, the text box is blue.
- Class Snapshot
When the Khanmigo chatbot is opened while on a class dashboard, a prompt called "Give me my class snapshot" appears. The Class Snapshot is also available on the activities page. This prompt was designed to save teachers time when analyzing their students’ Khan Academy progress and understanding what their students should work on next.
Clicking this prompt gives you a high-level analysis of your students’ work over the past 7 days, including their:
- learning time
- assignment completion data
- course mastery progress
- and more!
Click the "Group my class by their recommendations" bubble to be given ideas on what Khan Academy content your students should work on next!
- Khanmigo on your Teacher Dashboard
When a Khanmigo chat window is opened while viewing your Teacher Dashboard, teacher-focused prompts will be pre-populated for you.
- Help me find the right instructional content.
- How do I add a student?
- Help me explain a concept!
These prompts are ideas of what you can turn to Khanmigo for help. You can click on one of the prompts, or type in your own conversation topic directly into the text bot.
5. Khanmigo on Khan Academy Courses:
When a chat window is opened while viewing a Khan Academy exercise, video, or article, teacher-focused prompts will be pre-populated for you. These prompts change based on what type of content you are looking at and are suggestions of what you can turn to Khanmigo for help with.
You can click on one of the prompts, or type in your own conversation topic directly into the text box.
For more in-depth training on using the Khanmigo teacher tools, we recommend the Introduction to Khanmigo section of the Khan for Educators course.
We hope the Khanmigo teacher tools save you time and offer assistance in your teaching practice. We also are continuously improving the Khanmigo teacher tools and encourage you to leave feedback about your Khanmigo interactions!
