I just read that the API endpoints will be partially removed in January and the rest in July.

For me, this is really sad since there were already many efforts in this direction, inclusive the incentive of creating scoreboards to encourage students, and now we teachers will be constrained to the point and click, non-automated dashboard.

I was wondering what was the reason for this step back since there was none in the post.

By the way, I don't mean to complain. I love KA and am a big fan of it, I would just be glad to know what did you guys took this decision. =/

Hi Irigon,

We are making numerous changes as we transition to a new technical platform. As part of this work, we will stop supporting the public API in 2020. As a result, any calls that you make to our API after that point will return errors that you might already have encountered.

If you’ve been using our API to track progress, you can find updated reports on our website. Check out this article for more information about our reports.

If you’ve been using our API to pull Khan Academy content into your application under our Creative Commons license for non-commercial purposes, these portions of our Public API (/topictree and other content related calls) will sadly be unavailable.

We thank you for your understanding. Although our public API is going away, Khan Academy is not, so you can still monitor progress and access all of our content for free on our website.

I Love and appreciate Khanacademy too. I will be interested in the response to this question. I was about making use of the API when I saw the sad news.

We were using the API to allow for a user to search the resources to then link to them in their LMS. Is there another approach we should be doing to accomplish this?

As a homeschooling parent who uses KH for all four of my children, this is a total bummer. I need to keep accurate records of my students (children's) learning activities. the Parent and Teacher dashboard don't do that for me. I created an app that uses KH API to automate the creation of reports and format them to my specifications using my student KH data.

How can I get the data now? Please, respond. Thank you.

Hi, I'm also really disappointed by this :(
Was just looking into creating a learning app for myself and integrating Khan.

Could anyone from the team elaborate a bit about why all endpoints are being removed, and if there are plans on replacing them with a new API in the future?

This is really disappointing indeed.
I'd also be interested if there is another API under development or if there is a reason for the "walled garden" approach that some other commercial companies are taking. I would have thought KhanAcademy would have been the last bastion of democratized learning out there.

Love Khan Academy. Definitely want to add my voice to the chorus of disappointed folks who had plans to leverage KA's API to maximize the benefit of our learners on this platform.
