I have been looking for the scratch pad function that you have on the desktop site on the mobile site and app and as far as I can see it's not in either. I find this function really helpful on the desktop site and would appreciate if you could put it into the mobile site and app as it makes eg the maths questions much easier to do on the move.

Are you using Android or iOS (iPad/iPhone)? Also, if you are using iOS, are you using an iPhone or an iPad? I am using the iOS app on an iPad, and I am seeing the scratch pad. Here is how it works on the iPad for me.
1. It is only available in practices and mission/mastery problems, not in videos or articles.
2. When you are on a practice problem page, you should see a colorful icon in the bottom left corner of the screen. Touch this, and a bar with eight colors and a few other things comes up the left side of the screen. The other things include an “x” at the top to close it and, below the color choices, a brush to erase and a circular arrow to undo.
If you are using Android, it’s possible that the scratch pad is not available for your platform. Khan Academy had the iOS app available long before it had the Android one, and I have heard that other items are available on iOS but not on Android. I found the scratch pad on my iPad only by accident after I had been using the app for several weeks.
There is still no scratchpad on the Android phone app. As I noted earlier, I don't have access to a Samsung tablet. One thing to keep in mind, that you might not know if you began using Khan Academy fairly recently. Khan Academy did not have an Android app until long after it had an iOS app. They may have wanted to rush the Android app into production and thus left out features.
As for the scratchpad in the iPad app, it has changed since I first posted in this topic in March 2018 ("2 years ago"), and not for the better, either. For one thing, it no longer has an undo feature.
I suggest that you use Report a Problem in the top right of these support community pages and let the people who read these problem tickets know that you want a scratchpad on your Samsung Android tablet. If they respond by telling you to post this in the Support Community, write back and say you have already done this and that you were told to report it where Khan people would actually read it.
It would be easier if there were visible undo and redo buttons.
But it is possible to undo and redo in the iOS app when the scratchpad is open.
Swipe three fingers:
- To the left, Undoes the last action.
- To the right, Redoes previous Undos
The device can be shaken (physically) to show a popup with an Undo button.
If the last action was Undo, then the popup also shows a Redo button.
The animation shows the iPhone being shaken quite hard which isn't necessary.
Just shake it lightly and wait half a second, if it doesn't open, shake a little bit harder and repeat until it appears. When one learns how much of a shake is required then it's possible to just flick the wrist to open the popup every time.
If one doesn't want to shake the device, then the Shake action can be added to the AssistiveTouch floating button.
To enable AssistiveTouch, open:
Settings
Accessibility
Touch
AssistiveTouch
By default a single tap on the button, opens a menu.
Shake can be added to the menu.
But if one doesn't want to use the menu, then shake can be set as a single tap on the floating button.
In iOS 14, there's also a Back Tap feature.
Settings

Touch
scroll to the bottom and enable:
Back Tap
Shake can be set as a Double or Triple tap on the back of the iPhone.
This was tested on an iPhone X, running iOS Version 14.0.1

lightsecond Thanks for your detailed answer! I wish I had known this earlier. As luck would have it, just this week, Khan Academy rolled out a new version of the app that I use on an iPad. The Undo button has been restored to the scratch pad! It was removed in April 2018. In addition, there is now a Redo button, which the app never had before.
I don't use the app on an iPhone, so I don't know if there is a scratch pad there or if it has built-in Undo/Redo. If there is a scratch pad on the iPhone version of the app, but it doesn't have Undo/Redo, your instructions will no doubt come in handy.
Unfortunately, the original poster was using an Android device, so the instructions you gave likely won't work for this persion. I have an Android smartphone. The Khan Academy Android app, at least for smartphones, has never had a scratch pad. I don't know if the tablet version of the Android has a scratch pad and if it does, whether or not it has and Undo (and also a Redo) button.
