More Badges
A couple years ago, there was a massive badge wipe in which half or more of the KA badges dissapeared, along with streaks and mastery challenges. Is it possible to bring some of those back? The piece I really want to be brought back is the badges. I realize that some of the badges require discontinued services, but a lot of the removed badges don't. For example:
Five Times Ten to the Fifth, Helen Keller, Millionaire, and Ramujan all require getting certain numbers of energy points;
Picking up steam, Going Transonic, Going Supersonic, Sub-light Speed, and 299,792,458 Meters per Second all require getting a certain amount of questions right in a certain timeframe;
Persistence and Sticktoitiveness both require working on tough problems;
Great, Awesome, Ridiculous, and Ludicrous streak all require getting a certain amount of problems in a row right;
There were several question/answer votes awards as well;
And there was at least a hundred Challenge Patches for mastering various math skills!
All of these did not require mastery challenges or streaks, and could be brought back. The badges are really helpful, as they provide checkpoints for a lot longer along a user's journey then the current badge set does!
Mastery challenges were also helpful, as they provided an easy access to skills of every level, letting users find where they needed to improve, and where they were doing fine.The mastery challenges also allowed users to perform math drills, practicing and practicing questions to improve their understanding and knowledge on the subject. And as an added bonus, the mastery challenges allowed users to track their mastery over the entire subject, and showing gaps in their knowledge that they could work on. All in all, mastery challenges were fun, involving, and created a good learning experience.
If we could have mastery challenges and some of the badges back, they would be a great enhancement to user experience, and would improve Khan Academy as a whole.
