Many attempts
When a student retakes a quiz or a test does Khan Academy record the best score or the last score?
When a student retakes a quiz or a test does Khan Academy record the best score or the last score?
Hi Sherri:
If the student does multiple attempts, the score that you will see will be the last one they took.
If you take a look under student activity you may will be able to determine how they did on previous attempts. Depending on your goal, that may be useful.
Hope this helps.
Yes, this helps. Thank you so much.
What about tasks? My students and I only see their first attempt?
Is there a way for their score to show their best attempt?
Why do student scores not update based on their last attempt? My student's score is based on their first attempt, not their last.
Tim and msieben:
The reports that are viewable from Khan Academy always have the score of the last attempt. It is never based on the first attempt.
I am aware of videos, exercises, and articles. I am not familiar with tasks but the latest scores will always appear in the reports.
I'm experiencing scores that are not based on last attempt, but rather on first attempt. Scores are not updating maybe...
Tim
Do you use google classroom? or are you getting your data right from Khan Academy. That has never happened in 10 years that I have used Khan Academy. May I ask how you know that the score showing is not the last attempt?
Right from Khan. If you go to View Report for that score, the last attempt shows a different score. The score on the Assignment score page is from the first attempt, or at least matches the first attempt. I have seen this a few times over the last few years
OK Tim, now I am understanding better what you are referring to.
That view report screen on the left-hand side has all of the problems that the student was given on their attempts but the score you see on assignments is what you "should" go by to see the score of their last attempt, which I believe, looking at your prior statements/questions, is what you wanted. That is the last attempted score and not any other.
The view report screen, in my opinion, is more useful to see WHAT answer was chosen by the student or for a whole group instruction where students can see how the problem can be worked out. It is a strange set up for the left column and can be very confusing because the order of the questions is listed in the order of the questions most missed by the entire group of students taking that exercise. You will see that it shows you a grey box and a green box with information on how the entire class performed on the exercise. That may give you an idea of where a possible misunderstanding lies or perhaps even a poorly worded or confusing question was asked. It does include information on the individual student but it is not the best place to go to find out how a student faired on their most recent attempts. Some times too much information is not so helpful.
Sorry for the back and forth.
Thank you for the help. I guess I am still confused at how the View Report can show the student has answered questions correctly, but the Assignment score is at 0%.
I don’t really understand, if a student just made one attempt, what first report and last mean?
Does it mean that the student used clues?
One student told me that he tried again an activity, he took a higher score. However, he kept seeing the same percentage. Is this possible?
I am also facing this problem, and it is a serious problem. I am using Khan Academy only; no complication of Google Classroom. I am looking at one student's score. This is a live example, which you can see in the system.
It's the difference between trying problems with an problem set multiple times, vs trying the problem set multiple times. That students "Last" is the result of trying a problem again until they got it right, but all within one attempt of the problem set. They would need to restart the whole problem set and get them all correct on their first attempt to get a 100%.
When you drill-down on a number, you expect to see its details. What Khan Academy shows is something different; and that is counter-intuitive. The best thing to do will be to show multiple columns side-by-side.
People should be able to hide/display the columns. By default, only the last column should be shown. For each question, there are two numbers. They may be shown as two rectangles side-by-side. Red rectangle showing numbers who got it wrong, and red rectangle showing numbers who got it right. Sorting should be possible by any column.
To add further clarification to this thread:
The Scores tab in your class shows the student's best score across all attempts at the assignment, even if that attempt was made after the due date. To view scores for individual attempts, you will need to use the Individual Student Activity report.
To reduce confusion, the "First/Last" filter has since been removed from the assignment detail report. The new view shows every question that the students received across all attempts, and whether or not they answered the question correctly on the first try (the first answer that they submitted).
Please see this article for more up-to-date information on assignment score reporting.
