Best Way to Respond to Requests for Help?
For questions requesting help in particular academic areas posted in Study Group and elsewhere in the Support Community, what is the best way for someone who knows how to get the answer to answer? Is it proper to provide the answer, including all of the steps needed to get the answer?
Personally, I feel that it is more conducive to learning to provide a hint, which the original poster can then use to try to complete the problem. If this person can't proceed past the first hint, then this person should come back and ask for another one, until either this person can get through the problem without further help or until all of the steps and the correct answer are revealed. This step-by-step method is what is used for the hints in the Khan Academy practice exercises, unit tests, and mission mastery problems.
