When multiply two power expressions, that both have the same base, we can simply add the exponents.

For the first image that you provided:

y^(3/4) x y^(1/3) = y^(3/4 + 1/3) = y^(9/12 + 4/12) = y^(13/12)

I don't understand what the ^ symbol means

and how you got to 9/12 + 4/12

i understand 9/12 + 4/12? equalling y^(13/12) but I'm just conduced how you got to the previous  9/12 + 4/12?

The ^ means that the following numbers are an exponent. So y^(3/4) is y raised to the 3/4th power. From there since we are multiply two exponents with the same base, we can simply add the exponents. Then I found a common denominator, and finally added the two exponents.

Could you sent me a link to the exercise you are referring to?

Since you're multiplying them, you have to add the exponents (the images don't work by the way). We get each fraction into equivalent forms with common denominators: (3/4) = (9/12) and (1/3) = (4/12).

(9/12) + (4/12) = 13/12, so your answer should be y^(13/12). I'm not exactly sure what you mean by form "yn", but this is what I got.
