How can I use Khan Academy’s AI features responsibly?
Khan Academy offers a variety of AI-Enabled Features, including Khanmigo, to support learners and educators. These tools are designed to spark curiosity, build skills, and encourage active, thoughtful learning.
This article outlines how to use our AI tools responsibly and safely, and comprises Guidelines for use of our Service under our Terms of Service. It applies to all Users.
What are AI-Enabled Features?
Whenever you use an AI-Enabled Feature, you provide Input and receive an Output—together, this is called AI Content. AI Content is treated like other user-generated content on Khan Academy.
Our AI-Enabled Features use artificial intelligence to:
- Support learners in exploring new ideas and skills
- Offer helpful explanations or suggestions
- Encourage deeper thinking and academic integrity
AI tools are here to support learning, not to replace your thinking or do the work for you.
We recommend all users, and anyone supervising students or children, review these guidelines before getting started.
Responsible use: key expectations
When using AI-Enabled Features, including Khanmigo:
Do:
- Use the tools for individual learning or educational purposes
- Follow our Terms of service and avoid conduct that is Prohibited Conduct under our terms and Guidelines

Know the limits of AI
AI technology is evolving. That means responses may sometimes include:
- Mistakes or incomplete information
- Confusing phrasing or unexpected answers (often called “hallucinations”)
Your judgment always comes first. Check AI responses for accuracy and decide what makes sense for your learning goals.
For educators: using AI thoughtfully in the classroom
AI-Enabled Features can support instruction—but they do not replace professional judgment, especially for grading or assessments.

- Review the AI-generated content for accuracy and appropriateness
- Be transparent that AI helped generate it
