Getting Started with Responsible AI Use
Embracing AI technologies in education begins with understanding how to use these new tools responsibly. We encourage you to explore these resources to enhance your knowledge regarding application of AI in the classroom.
Understanding AI's Capabilities and Limitations
Khanmigo and Khanmigo Teacher Tools utilize AI technology, which is still at an early stage of development. These innovative tools come with their own set of limitations: they may make errors or “hallucinate.” We recommend that you verify the information provided by these tools (known as “Output”) to ensure that any educational content or materials you create are accurate and appropriate for your intended use.
Privacy Matters
Khan Academy is committed to protecting user privacy when using our services, including AI-enabled features. Khanmigo is powered by AI developed by our external partners. While we have taken steps to protect the information you submit, Khanmigo is not intended to be used to process personally identifiable information. We advise you to avoid including any personally identifiable information in Khamigo chat queries or activities.
Keep Humans in the Loop
Khanmigo Teacher Tools are designed to support you and make your job easier. While they can lighten your workload, they are not a substitute for the unique expertise and professional judgment that you bring as an educator. These tools should not be over-relied upon in performance assessments or making decisions about students.
Check with School Policies
Using Khanmigo within your school environment requires adherence to your school's policies and regulations. Your commitment to aligning the use of Khanmigo with these policies ensures responsible use of AI tools in a manner that is appropriate for your educational setting.
Guidelines for Use and Conduct
Our AI-enabled tools are intended for your individual use, for educational purposes. We require all users to refrain from prohibited conduct as outlined in our Terms of Service, as well as adhering to OpenAI’s Usage Policy. These include restrictions against unlawful activity, causing harm to another person, or creating hateful, discriminatory or offensive content. These common-sense restrictions help to ensure positive and responsible use of AI technologies in education.
Creating and Sharing AI Content
Engaging with AI to generate content comes with responsibilities. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have rights to use any content that you submit (“Input”) to AI tools, and that you verify the accuracy of any Output generated. When disseminating AI-generated materials, you must comply with our terms, including disclosing the role of AI in creating the content, as well as OpenAI’s Sharing and Publication Policy.
Khanmigo in the Classroom
If your school uses Khanmigo with students, you have an important role to play in helping your students learn about responsible use of AI tools, including understanding the limits of the technology and avoiding sharing of personal information.
