Getting started with responsible AI use

Embracing AI technologies in education begins with learning how to use these tools thoughtfully and responsibly.
Khan Academy provides a range of resources to support educators in integrating AI effectively, including our  AI for Education Course and AI Resource Hub. We encourage you to explore these resources to deepen your understanding of how to apply AI effectively in the classroom.

Understanding AI’s capabilities and limitations

Khanmigo and Khanmigo Teacher Tools use AI technology, which is still in the early stages of development. While these tools offer innovative support, they have limitations and may occasionally produce errors or “hallucinations.” We recommend reviewing and verifying the AI-generated content (“Output”) to ensure that any educational materials you create are accurate and appropriate for your intended use.

Privacy matters

Khan Academy is committed to protecting user privacy across all our services, including those powered by AI. Khanmigo uses AI developed by our external partners. While we’ve implemented safeguards to protect submitted information,Khanmigo is not intended to be used to process personally identifiable information (PII). We advise you to avoid including any personally identifiable information in Khanmigo chat queries or activities.

Keep Humans in the Loop

Khanmigo Teacher Tools are designed to support your work and help lighten your workload. However, they are not a replacement for the professional expertise and judgment you bring as an educator. We ask all users to follow these guidelines and avoid using Khanmigo to:

  • Share unlawful or harmful content
  • Create or spread hateful, discriminatory, or offensive material
  • Causing harm to other individuals

Creating and sharing AI content

When using Khanmigo to generate content, you must follow our Terms of Service and OpenAI’s Sharing and Publication Policy. This includes:

  • Verifying the accuracy of any content Khanmigo generates as output
  • Clearly disclosing the use of AI if you share the materials externally
