So this is the most basic idea of what I'm trying to figure out
So say I was trying to solve this problem:

I would like to solve for b, how would I do that? Does it even have a solution?

4^(a+b+c)=2^b+3^c; solve for b

Since you have one equation and three unknowns it will not have a unique solution but will have many solutions.

For example, a = 1/2, b = c = 0 and a = 0, b = 0, c = 1
