I'm 79% into the existing High School Biology course, with estimated completion date in late August/early September. Please, please, PLEASE reassure me that this course, even if renamed, will stick around at least until then!

@Regina Litman read please. Content is not going to be removed, but amplified. So the course will stick around but with more content meaning that while your mastery percent will decrease, you will be having a more solid foundation in this field.

Edit: seems like mastery percentage will not change, just a matter of adding some videos.

pa_u_los, the impression I got from reading the original email is that the course that had been called High School Biology beta is going to be renamed High School Biology. What had been present in the current High School Biology beta course is nothing like any portion of the current High School Biology (non--beta) course. I suspect that the structure of the newer one will be so different from the older one that it would make continuing what I have already begun to study practically impossible. I hope that it can remain with its own new name, such as High School Biology (old).

When the Calculus courses were totally revamped in 2018, the older ones were kept around and given new names containing 2017.

While I appreciate your attempt to answer my question, I would like to hear from an official Khan representative, such as original poster Adam Green. In the meantime, I have both filled out the feedback form referenced in the original post and used Report a Problem to express my concerns, in addition to posting here.

Practically impossible? The hs beta course is literally 2 exercises and a bunch of videos on scientific method and water. The overall hs biology course only has 5k points to master. They are not going to change any structure for now, just going to add content. I guess you have serious time problems because the work is doable in a matter of 3 days or 4 if being serious about it. Even I have completed the beta one.

Edit: You mentioned the calculus courses. Haven't seen the 2017 content but it should be really similar, as they just follow standards. It's a discipline after all. 

pa_u_los, what you are seeing in the beta course is content that is not yet complete. The 2 exercises and everything else have been part of High School Biology beta for a while now. I am pretty sure there was more to be added to it. The way I interpret the original post is:

1. The current High School Biology beta course is going to be renamed High School Biology and has been completed with the addition of more than the 2 exercises and other stuff that was already there.

2. The current High School Biology beta/renamed High School Biology course was supposed to have enough content added to it yesterday (29 July/July 29, 2021) or today (30 July/July 30, 2021), but this has not happened yet. (I just checked using the Android phone app version of Khan Academy.)

3. The fate of the current High School Biology course is not yet known. That is the one with 5,100 mastery points.

4. If the resulting High School Biology course turns out to be a merger of the current High School Biology course plus what's now in High School biology beta, then I will accept that and enthusiastically work toward the additional mastery.

As for the Calculus classes, the outdated ones are still accessible in at least the Android Khan Academy app and probably also the iOS app and website. They are called "AP Calculus AB (2017 edition)" and "AP Calculus BC (2017 edition)". The current ones have the same names without " (2017 edition)".

Let me first reassure you that no courses are being deleted and your progress is not going away!

Later today, the course that is currently called High school biology will be removed from the Course/learn menu (the list of courses you can see in the dropdown menu visible on most Khan Academy pages) and it will no longer appear on the Science landing page. However, your work will not be lost and you can continue to complete the course by clicking on this High school biology link or by using any bookmarks you may have made. It will no longer appear in your My Courses area in your account.

At the same time, the course that is currently called High school biology beta will get a new name: High school biology. The links to all of these courses will not change. The newly-named High school biology will be getting A LOT of new content, especially videos and exercises! And the structure of that course will be very different from the "older" high school biology course. It has been created with a focus on the Next Generation Science Standards. I hope you check it out when you get a chance. I think you'll like it!

I know this change might make things harder for you and I'm sorry for that. I hope, with this information, you'll still be able to find your way to your work in the older High school biology course and that you reach your goal there!

Adam Green, I use Khan Academy in the iPad app! How will I get to the old High School Biology course there?

Adam Green, I had never used bookmarks in Khan Academy before. I just went through the old High School Biology units I hadn't completed yet on both my iPad and Android phone (which I use sometimes but not as often as the iPad one). I hope these will work after the changes you just mentioned. I did this at the playlist/subtopic level (example: Human body systems -> The immune system), not at the individual video, article, or exercise level. I was not able to bookmark the Unit tests, so I guess I'll have to use the link to get to them on the web page. (I don't do Unit Quizzes or the Course Challenge, just practice exercises and Unit Tests.) I did open a not-yet-attempted Unit Test to see if I could bookmark it, but I couldn't.

I added the link to the old course you put in your message into Favorites/Bookmarks on my Safari browser on my iPad app.

You should still see the course on the app. But when you tap on it, it will take you to the mobile web version of the Khan Academy website. It should even log you in automatically! Then you can complete the course there. 

Unfortunately, we won't be able to keep the older High School Biology available directly from the apps.

Adam Green, so the trouble I went to to set up those bookmarks will all be in vain?

If I set things up in the App Store and Google Play Store to not automatically update Khan Academy, will I get to keep the old High School Biology course in my apps until I'm done with them?

By the way (never BTW when I'm doing the typing), I hate that spelling of "congratulations" that leaves out "ulation". It somewhat (never "kind of", "sort of" or, especially, "kinda" or "sorta" when I'm doing the typing) added insult to injury when it was used in a message that delivered bad news to me. I may have overlooked it if you had delivered the news I was hoping to hear.

I'm not in a great position to help troubleshoot issues on specific devices. But please hop over to the forums and post a question there if you have trouble accessing the older High School Biology course. I'd suggest starting in the Technical Issues and Workarounds forum. Hopefully, that will get you what you need.

The original message I posted here is no longer relevant. For some reason, the Bookmark/Favorite I had set up in the Safari browser was incorrect. I have edited it, and it is working properly now.

As Adam said, there's a complete new course called High School Biology with new content. 4k points Regina, I'm sure you got this. 

When will the videos be available? At the moment there are only mastery challenges.

Also, I was using Khan academy logged out for the last 2-3 years and as a result of this update it made me sign in and I lost all of my progress today. I had 100% of the points available in the 8th grade math course and the high school geometry course, on top of random other pieces of courses and some of the old high school biology course. As a result of this I have started using KA signed in. Is there anyway I can get my progress back on a logged in account for at least my math courses?

I concur with finmgammell. I pretty much lost all the Mastery points I gained in the High-school physics course. I noticed that in the Physics library the Mastery points gained from practice assignments are still there, but all Mastery points gained from quizzes and unit tests are gone. Utterly disappointing.
In my view, the old High-school physics course should have been moved somewhere else and marked as 'old', but still be accessible. After two or three years or so, the old course can be removed, so that users can finish the course.
Please respond Khan academy to this issue, that I am sure affects many users.

Adam Green Is the new High School Biology course complete? I noticed that some sections only have practice exercises, no videos or articles. Somebody new to this subject may need to learn the material before attempting the practices. Here are the ones that are missing such content:

Growth and feedback in organisms -> Cell division and organism growth

Matter and energy in organisms -> Cellular respiration

Inheritance and variation -> Gene expression and regulation

Evolution and natural selection -> Natural selection and evolution

If there are indeed plans to add content to these section, as well as additional content to ones that already have articles and/or videos, when is this planned to occur?

Regina Litman is right, I completed the new high school course over the last two weeks and many of the practice questions asked about topics not covered in the videos. Additionally, some of the sections had no videos at all. In order to complete this course I had to go back to the old high school bio course to watch videos on the material. The old course was much better and included about two to three videos a section along with an article.
