Hi All,

I've started the intro to computer science - Python class and it is a good learning tool so far.

I have a couple of questions though. There are several parts where it assumes I have knowledge of functions that have not been explained before. I have been using ChatGPT and Google searches to supplement my knowledge but it makes for a slow learning process. Is there something I'm missing here? Some explanatory page I'm skipping?

Example:

In Class 4: Arithmetic Expressions: Challenge: Coupon Codes.

In the Last paragraph of Step 1: ''Recall that you can convert between data types with the str(), int(), float() functions.'' Nowhere is it explained what these functions are. There are several such instances but this is the first that came to mind.

Secondly, I am after completing 'Lesson 3: Variables: Challenge: URL Paths' to the extent that I have achieved the result that I have been asked to achieve but I am still getting an error message:

Would any of you fine folk be able to discern what the problem here is?

Hi Seán,

The Python course is still under construction, so we are still working on adding more content! At this point, the course only contains exercises, challenges, and projects. Instructional videos and articles are in the works and will be added in the future. For more information on the status of the course, please visit this page.

In regards to the URL paths challenge, I took a look at the tests for this challenge and it looks like the challenge is expecting there to only be two print outputs in the entire program---the prints on lines 10 and 11. If you remove the print statement on line 5, you should be able to complete the challenge.

That is extremely helpful, thank you!

I completely understand the course is under instruction and it will be a helpful learning tool for years to come. Can't wait.

Thanks for the clarification of the print lines as well. I would have never figured that out. Now I know what to look for in future if I'm completing tasks and it's still giving me errors. Just do exactly what it asks, no more no less.

I am having similar trouble with Lesson 3: Variables: Challenge: URL Paths. I have watched YouTube videos and re-checked the lesson materials and I am stumped. Can anyone help me with my error message? Thank you!

What is the .lower() function for? Remove that maybe?

It is used to make all of the text entered lowercase. Thanks for the suggestion. It still doesn't work - same error message.
