Alphabetize by last name, view assignments by student

Edit the names of the students.  All of my students show up with IDs like "dmassey1234@k12pcs.org" -- but one of the first things I do is go through and change all of their names to something I can recognize.  You could do the same by listing them as "Lastname, Firstname" (this would just be your view of their accounts, not what they see when they sign in.

Click on your class, then Roster, and then hover over a student's name -- you'll see "Edit Student Name" show up on the right:

Edit the student name, hit enter, and move on to the next one.  It takes a little bit of time, but you only do it once (or twice, when you discover that Bradley actually likes to be called Bud). 

THANK YOU !!!  I knew you could rename the student - didn't even dawn on me to do that !!  What about being able to see the assignments each individual student ?  

Part two of your request (being able to view all the assignments for a particular student) isn't possible now, but it's already been requested of the programming team at Khan.  :-)

When will Part II of the original question be addressed? Right now, the only way to get such a view is to literally have students log-in, in front of you iin-person, and read their home screens over their shoulders.

Otherwise you'd need to export each assignment, append them together yourself, sort it by child AND then still need to compare the due date to the completion date since late work and on-time work are not coded in any way. Then, if after a day or two, non-tech savvy Mrs. Jones wants and update on Jimmy, you 'd need to do the whole thing again just to tell her.

The activity bar graphs only show what was touched in each time period, not what was finished. So that's not much help either.

I have changed the display name of all of the students in my roster, however they are only SORT OF alphabetized.

I now essentially have part of the class names listed A-Z, but then those missing from that list start over again as A-Z underneath the first list.

I press the button to change A-Z / Z-A and back, but I still have two sets of A-Z names on my roster.

Is there a way to make the whole roster list as ONE A-Z list?

Hello Roger! I'm sorry you are having issues with the site. Is there any way you could post a screen shot of your class roster so I can get a better idea of what is going on? Hope to hear back from you. 

It's great you could edit the children's name but very tedious when you have 170 students.  It would be great if we had the option in a simple manner.

I'll submit this request, as well. There's no way I'm going through and re-typing 150 names. Because they're all correct, we need the students assorted by LAST Names like every other populated list we contend with. 

ELEMENTARY teachers deal in first names. NO ONE after Grade 6 does. This dilutes the "expediency" option that draws teachers to Khan Academy in the first place.
