Hi,

For summer, Our son will be entering 7th grade next year. The plan was to have him take the course challenges starting with 4th grade as a way of identifying gaps. 4th grade was an arbitrary choice but I reasoned he has probably missed a little each year. Today I received an email announcing Camp Kahn which seems to be another way of approaching this by taking the "get ready" course for the grade your entering. So the question is whether taking the get ready course for the grade your entering test for any foundational gaps leading up to your grade? Remember, Sal Kahn said math is built on each previous lesson, thus the question.

Hi Jeff,

The Get Ready courses cover some of the prerequisite skills that students will need to complete the units in their upcoming grade level. This is meant for students who need a review of previous concepts or who may be struggling with a particular unit in a course.

The regular grade level courses are far more comprehensive than the Get Ready courses, so it would probably be best to work through those if you want to fully identify any gaps in learning and work towards true mastery. The Get Ready courses are a great alternative if you're short on time or if your child has generally done well and understood the concepts from previous courses.
