Changing The Canvas Size Bugs

I was making a computer program and wanted to make the canvas bigger, so I went in the program settings and changed it to 600xx600, the largest resolution available. When I tried to add a background, I noticed that the background only covered the 400x400 size of the default canvas. Is there a way to make it so the background fully covers the enlarged canvas?
