Most universities in the United States require you to take the SAT or ACT. A few schools require you to take the essay portion of the SAT, so you should check with the university that you are looking at attending. The SAT subject tests are generally not needed, but again you should check with the university you plan on applying to.

The SAT or ACT is one of the bigger things you need before applying. Most colleges also have additional entrance requirements, but those vary depending on the university. I'd suggest that you look at the entrance requirements for the universities you're interested in to find out what else you need.
