was wondering what this problem would be called i need to study these types of problems for my ibew test and none of that was in algebra 1 course on Kahn academy 3D = E – 3 Which of the following statements is true for this formula? If D is less than -1, E is positive. If D is greater than -3, E is negative. If D is greater than -1, E is positive. If D is greater than -3, E is positive.

First, make D= -2. It evaluates to: -6=E-3 add three to both sides and you get:-3=E

So, the first statement is not true. The second statement is obviously untrue because when you make D=100, 300=E-3 and E=303, which is not negative.

For the third statement, make D=0, to make it greater than -1. 0=E-3 E=3

This seems right, so we now try a few more numbers. D=1 3=E-3 E=6

The fourth statement is wrong. D has to be greater than -3, so let's use -2 .When D=-2, E=-3..

Nope. The third one is the only one that works.
