I love KA but am not fond of the new format for videos that seems to have appeared literally out of the blue. Is there any mechanism for being able to view the old format? Sorry if I can't be more specific, but the new format, with 1/3 of the computer screen allotted to where we are in the unit, is, to me, very distracting and not as easy to view. Did KA put out any notice of these changes? Very surprised that users were not queried on this. My two cents.

This change was originally announced quite a while ago here, and includes more details of what was changed and the reasoning behind it. The initial update was limited to the math and science courses, and was only shown to US-based classroom users. The update was just recently rolled out to all subjects and users, which is why you may just now be seeing the change.
In regards to the sidebar issue you're describing, you should be able to collapse the entire sidebar to make more room for the course content. You can do so using the arrow button in the middle of the right-side of the sidebar.

Thanks for your quick response and the information you provided about the video format change. Yes, I did miss the announcement, and to be honest, up until today I feel fairly certain that the various methods of watching videos had remained the same. But, since the change has been implemented, we will go with it.
That being said and accepted, I do not like the format change. And with absolutely no disrespect, and with much gratitude for everything I have learned at KA --and continue to learn! -- I feel that the format change falls short of KA's explication of its intended purpose. To me, there is too much empty space on the screen, literally. The old format(s) provided a context for learning, that for me, was provided by being able to toggle between the formats for various purposes, and I, for one, had no problem/issues seeing either progress or mastery skills in the old formats. I have been logging on to KA just about daily for the last 10 years and am (was) also able to navigate between those formats with comparative ease. The video layout was slightly different and I used those differences when I wanted a perspective change in the presentation. Therefore, and casting no aspersions, I am not convinced of the official rational for the change.
There seem to have been many changes in KA from its inception, many within the last few years. There was the streak feature: that is gone. Much of partner content is gone. Are badges still around?

I use KA almost daily and haven't found an issue with the previous video format however I totally agree with Kevin here.
While i appreciate the ideas and thoughts behind the redesign, I would also appreciate an option to return to using the small popout video player instead of the larger player with the sidebar.
I personally liked that there was the option to switch from the small to the larger one, with the dedicated page. Would love to see that option implemented again!
Agreed. Been on khan almost daily for a couple weeks now and up until today I haven't seen the changes in any math subjects. I was on just about 10 hours ago from the time I post this comment and I still had the old layout. No idea why I am only seeing it now but I really do prefer the old format much more. The popup video overlay was very good to focus on the current contents of the video and I opened the expanded page if I wanted to check the questions and answers or the upcoming video/article practice. With the new layout there is only 1 video option and its just too empty and open. I can barely even focus on the video honestly. It isn't a big deal because I can just enter full screen I guess, but I still miss the old layout
At least an option to switch between the old and new layout would be really nice.

Hi Evan- it now seems that we no longer have the option to not view the lesson/videos/ titles while watching a video, or to say another way, we can't collapse the listings view (?).
Not sure what one would call it, but, I find it as much of a distraction. Please correct me if I am mistaken on how the controls work while watching a video. Do you think that how one watches a video will settle down to one stable format? Thanks for any input.
ＫＥＶＩＮ This was caused by a bug and was not intentional! I believe this issue should have been fixed a couple hours ago, so if you're still running into issues with the collapsable sidebar please let me know!
