Perplexed by the data download

I've used and referenced khan academy for years. I have great appreciation for the wonderful videos that have been provided to help students learn. This year I decided to incorporate it as part of my instruction to assign students in my class videos and assessments to help supplement the lack of time for the classroom with quarantine conditions. While I started fairly pleased by the interface and setup with google classroom, I'm getting worried as I do basic logistics of checking to see if my students completed their assignments.

For starters, the fact that you can't sort by last name is a worry with the work around being having students write their last name then first name instead of having 2 or more data fields. I figured it would be fine, I could just export the data as a .csv file then use text to column and figure it out. That is where the perplexation happened. 

Why are the students names copied vertically for every single assignment?

 I have a spreadsheet that is 876 rows long. For one class. 

I have 5 classes. making it a total of around 4,380 rows to go cycle through to check student progress for one set of assignments. Its bigger then that since I assigned my AP class significantly more videos.

Perhaps the export could use the students names just once then show the results for each assignment in columns that way it would be just a horizontal check to see if the tasks had been finished? 

Any help would be greatly appreciated by my 219 students seeing their grades soon and I :-/
