usually solving word problem requires tranlating the word into an equation, that is the first thing you have to know, it does not require formulas unless stated otherwise? It depends the topic word problem, or the equation given t find them! here are some formulas I know you can use to solve word problems, dependind on your level or understanding! :
P = 2W + 2L: The perimeter of a rectangle is twice the width plus twice the length,
P = 4s: The perimeter of a square is 4 times the length of a side.
d = rt: Distance traveled is the rate (speed) times the amount of time traveled,
A + B + C = 180: The sum of the measures of the angles in a triangle is 180 degrees.
A = 1/2(bh): The area of a triangle is one half the base times the height.
C = 2πr: The circumference of circle is two times pi times the radius, e.t.c.... these are the few formula I understand!
and as for your word problem, simply change it into a formula, then calculate all togther!
