Published Scientific Literature and the General Public - Bridging the Gap
Scientific literature undergoes a meticulous process, from start to finish, filled to the brim with quality information, only to be read by a generally small human population consisting of scientists and academia. There is a great disconnect with the Science community and the general public, which may play a role in the mass skepticism, hysteria, and hesitancy when it comes to believing medical or science experts. There is a profound language barrier, because quite frankly if you do not have the scientific background already, coupled with the focus to read dense information, you would never bother with the jargon. With that ignorance comes a fear of the unknown, and from that stems hatred and distrust
I would love to see an initiative where maybe a few peer-reviewed scientific articles from a variety of publishers/ journals are selected and then presented in a series of videos or written format, essentially breaking down and explaining most/all aspects (as opposed to sparse summaries seen in news articles) of the paper in a comprehensive yet simple manner. It can also have embedded links to previous articles and videos explaining necessary background information.
For example, person/team x can choose 3 articles of their liking, and then send a poll out for the people to decide which paper they want to be explained. Alternatively, person x can choose what article they want to post about. A sample timeline could be an article a week, or once every two weeks, all depending on whos on this initiative and team.
