What is the best way to " level up", Mastery Challenges or Quizzes.

I do not believe that students can level up using the Course Challenge feature.  So far, I have used the Course Challenge feature as a way to see if students are ready for acceleration.  I think it would also be quite useful to determine the need for remediation... but I have not tried that yet...The Course challenge takes 30-45 minutes so you definitely need to find the right time to have students take it.  The Course Challenges tell you the % score you got out of 30 questions- they do not increase your level of mastery (to my knowledge.)  

In terms of figuring out whether to use the Mastery Challenges or to use the Quizzes - I guess it depends upon how youa re using Khan in your classroom.  If students follow the Course material sequentially and you use Khan to guide them through the topics of the year, then I would say you should use the quizzes (in proper order.)  If you use Khan as a supplement to what you are doing int he classroom (like I do) then I think Mastery Challenges will work best.  I am still learning a lot as I go - so hopefully some other folks will weigh in as well.  I hope this helps.

Hey Julianne! Thanks for jumping in. Students _can_ level up through the course challenge, but they wouldn't level up on all of the skills in a course because not all skills from each course are in every course challenge. That said, your idea for using it as a diagnostic sounds great! And totally agree about the differences between Mastery Challenges (missions) and Quizzes (Mastery/assignments). Depends entirely on what the classroom setup/goal for Khan Academy in the classroom is! <3
