To solve this, you're going to first want to calculate the probability of selecting a smoker from each gender. So 410/1000 for the males and 495/990 for the females. If you convert these fractions to decimals, you get 0.41 (for males) and 0.5 (for females). Since this question is about compound probability, you multiply 0.41 and 0.5. This produces the answer of 0.205.
