Can I cut off student access to assigned work on the due date and/or give due date extensions to individual students?

I teach physics remotely for a community college which uses OER's for textbooks and homework. I've found Khan Academy a great tool to build student's online homework. Students are enjoying it and learning from the great videos and resources.

However, I've discovered that though I set due dates for what I assign it appears students can go back in, redo exercises and improve scores after the due dates.

Is there a way to cut off their access to the assigned work on the due date?

If not, it appears I must go in and download grades immediately after due dates. Then, if students make improvements I can later download the new grades and deduct a percentage from higher/improved grades (so people who completed work later aren't given equal credit as those who mastered and completed material earlier) to replace the older, lower grades.

Also, is there a way to give individual students due date extensions on their assigned work? I have not found many options in setting due dates. This would be very helpful for students who message me with family emergencies, sickness, etc and need more time on a particular assignment.

I am very thankful for Khan Academy offering all of these great resources for free... just could use clarity moving forward to utilize the resources here best.

Hi Ryan,

Any of the content you assign will always be available to students---there's not currently a way to remove their access to the assignment after the due date. The Scores tab in your class will always show the highest score for each student, even if that assignment attempt was after the due date.

If you need to identify students' scores at the time of the due date (or identify late submissions), then I suggest downloading the assignment CSV report for each individual assignment. To do this, go to the Assignments --> Manage tab in your class and click on the numbers under the Completed column for the assignment you wish to view. You should then see a Download CSV button in the top right of the popup. This report will show you each student's best score overall, best score at the due date, number of attempts, and the time of the most recent attempt.

Editing the due date for an assignment will change the due date for all students---there is not currently a way to modify the due date for individual students. One workaround is to create a copy of the assignment with the new due date and only select the student who needs the extension in the Students dropdown. However, this will cause multiple versions of the assignment to show up in your Scores and Manage pages, which can be quite confusing. Instead, I suggest re-downloading the individual assignment CSV reports as needed.
