This is just something I realised about the programming community

My little brother does this.

As a user of the programming community, I can admit this is me sometimes. Most of this is my competitive side showing, wanting to constantly learn new things to be the best. For some people (such as how I used to act), this involves posting many low-quality projects and gimmicks to get recognized. After going through this stage, I will say I did learn something from it: nothing is gained from the same thing over and over again. You cannot glitch your way through learning.

As for your actual comment, I will say that this revolves around community. If it were just about learning, I would go to W3schools and SO, instead. The community is what sets Khan Academy apart, and encourages students to keep programming, for that one comment "Good job", or "I really like how you did this". Or that answer that keeps you from quitting altogether. Just something I realised about the community.

I very much agree. Khan has been slowly corroding away, it's not as good as it once was. As you said, lqbt (not going to go further than the t since I don't want to have to keep editing it) is becoming a major issue of debate especially when you consider that a lot of Christians and homeschoolers use this platform. Khan needs to be a platform for its users, not a platform to push their agenda. 

I'm against killing the social interaction part of the Khan coding section. A lot of people here are looking to code as a hobby rather than a full career so with out the community they might just not code. I know that's what I would do at least.

I do think it would be helpful for there to be more highlighting of high quality content. The contests help with this but it would be neat if there were a featured section or something.

To clarify, I don't at all think the social interaction should be deleted. It's a very helpful part of learning here, and as RazzRack said, many of the people here aren't trying to make a career, so it's a nice thing to have. All I'm trying to say (sorry if it didn't come across right) is that I think it could be helpful  for the community if the social interaction was more regulated to focus on learning.

I agree largely with your original post. Khan Academy should be an educational site first and foremost, and for many years people have joined the programming community more to play little games than learn or teach. There are three main problems with what you want, however.

1. Viability. The Guardians are mostly volunteers. They can't turn it into their full-time jobs. I am friends with a few, off platform, and as much as they'd like to keep everything on-topic, there's just not enough of them or enough time to keep everything according to Guidelines as it is. Considering this, massively increasing their workload would be functionally impossible. Why can't they just let more people join the team? Because so few are trustworthy or have built the rapport, in large part, because of the social aspect of KA. 

2. Desire. You're asking for an overhaul of the community on KA. A complete rewrite of the Guidelines. Given the lackluster response of the site staff to everything aside from the total CS site failure we saw some time ago (Summer of 2021 I believe), I highly doubt they will do anything of the sort.

3. Users. A lot of people will leave and never come back. A lot of people won't come to KA in the first place. Even I started using the CS site because of a game my friends showed me some 9 years ago.

Regarding your second edit, KA has already made their opinion clear. They don't consider it a controversial topic and they have officially supported people in that community. Considering you have religious symbolism and messaging in your name, which many (including staff) consider controversial, perhaps you should err on the side of freedom of speech.

Thank you for input! That isn't something I really thought about, but it does make a lot of sense. There are many issues with the idea, and every solution would present different problems, as is the way with most things. I do realise that what I'm looking for wouldn't be a simple change at all, and I don't expect anything at all to come out of it. My purpose for writing the post was not to try to fix the problem, but to get people to think about the issue and if there is something that could be changed, that maybe it would happen.

As for the last part: I know what they've said. I get it. They don't define it as a controversial topic in the context of the guidelines, but using the general meaning of the word, I don't think you can really deny that it's controversial and has started many fights on KA. I don't wanna start another fight here, I'm just saying even with the efforts they've put into it, it's still an issue, and I feel like it could be helpful if they just banned the topic. And again, that's just a suggestion, they can do what they want, and there are probably other or better ways to deal with, that's just the idea I have.
