Do new students automatically receive assignments when they join my Khan Academy class?

The answer is... sometimes! New students who join your class will automatically receive assignments when the following conditions are met: 

1. If the teacher originally made the assignment for all the students in the class

 If an assignment was made before any students joined the class, then all future students who join the class will automatically receive it. 

Note: If a class was created before or during August 2023, new students will not automatically receive assignments. Assignments must be manually assigned to them.

2. If the assignment is not past its due date 

• When an assignment reaches its due date, it is considered past due. This means it will not be automatically given to new students who join the class, even if the teacher has edited the assignment and set a new due date.
  • New students will never receive past due assignments. If you’d like to assign past due content, we suggest that you create a new assignment specifically for new students. 
• New students will, however receive scheduled assignments if they were assigned to all students originally. Then, once the scheduled assignment becomes active, new students will receive it.

3. If the assignment is a content assignment or Unit Mastery Goal assignment (not a Course Mastery Goal) 

• Course Mastery goals do not have the ability to be automatically assigned to future students at this time.
