Algebra 1 | Comparing linear rates word problems | Suggestion regarding the depth of the material

Hello!

I have a suggestion regarding the lesson "Modeling with linear equations and inequalities" in unit 4 of the Algebra 1 course.

Many users have expressed frustration regarding the sharp difficulty curve in this lesson, because many have breezed through the unit effortlessly but then got stuck at this lesson. It is mostly because of the fact that there is only one video and one article inside of this lesson as of the time of me writing this post.

The difference in the amount of material and the exercise difficulty creates a hard gap to cross in terms of successfully completing the exercise after the lesson in a similar time frame in comparison to the other lessons within the unit.

I personally have been mostly successful with the lesson by practicing a lot and eventually I have understood the problems pretty well. The problem is, other users are still having a pretty hard time understanding the problems and doing them without any hints.

My suggestion would be to invest more time in helping the users understand how to interpret and translate word problems into algebra. This could come in the form of multiple shorter videos regarding multiplication, division, addition/subtraction, usage of parenthesis, when goes which inequality sign, etc. (all regarding the translation from words to algebraic expressions).

Apart from the mild inconvenience this difficult lesson has caused many of us, I would like to emphasize that Khan Academy has helped me a lot with my understanding of algebra, math, and my skills in math overall. It is an amazing site!
