Hi. I really dig the whole Mozilla Backpack idea and would like to proudly display my hard earned badges on that website. Can you make this happen please? I'm trying to get my badges that I've earned through College over to Mozilla Backpack as well. This is the future of geekdom and it needs to happen.

This. Lots of this please. As a fledgling educator, I feel that these badges, more so than standalone subjects, are going to shape the education systems of the future. Please work together with Mozilla on this one.

I feel the need to bump this thread, since - in my opinion - I can't see a better fit for Open Badges than Khan Academy. As an autodidact who dropped out of conventional school twice and, through services like Khan Academy, was able to land and sustain a job as a programmer, Open Badges are an essential evolution of the internet as a platform for learning.
I was lucky, being a programmer, where established forums for contributing to open source software, and thereby being able to show your skills, exist, but for people whose interests lay elsewhere, Open Badges are an absolutely necessary step towards a fairer world. I sincerely hope you'll consider making your challenge patches available as Open Badges, because it's desperately needed.
I would love see this. Here is one problem that maybe commenters can suggest how to solve:
The Open Badge standard requires an email address. Khan Academy allows teachers to create accounts for students, and for those students to later "claim" the account. This is to help underage kids without email addresses participate.
How can Khan Academy Open Badges be issued given this?
I think the employees are busy with lots of other issues, so would need a more detailed solution that the general idea of "get a programmer to allow email addresses to be created by teachers inside the Khan academy system, and then later allow the kids to claim them". I think they need some volunteers to design a fuller solution, or submit a proposal.

You make a good point there.
Replacing the KhanAcademy Badge system with OpenBadges from scratch would be too much manual work for the staff, anyhow.
My idea for an alternative:
- On the "Badges" page, add a 'claim' button to each Badge (you could only give this to relevant Badges, but that would likely be more work to implement than to just let the user decide what's relevant)
- The 'claim' Button allows the user to claim this Badge as a generated Open Badge IFF an E-mail has been linked to the account. If not, it notifies you that you have to link an E-Mail first.
This does mean a relatively small change to the User Interface.
As for generating the actual Open Badge, that shouldn't be too complicated (going by the mozilla website here since I don't know the specs by heart):
Badge Name - same as on Khan Academy
Badge URL (description) - The description goes kinda hand in hand with the criteria here and a description of how to earn each Badge already exists on the site.
Badge Criteria - see above.
Badge Image - same as on KA
Issuer - KA
Issue Date - Either whenever it's generated by using the Claim button, or more accurately whenever the original badge was first earned on KA (this is already in the databanks, too)
Recipient - Require sufficient information to be entered by the user
Tags - not too important, probably just "Khan Academy", "Name of the section it was earned in", "Name of the Badge" or somesuch.
Alignment (standards) - I doubt KA has a specifically defined standard, but if they do they can link it.
Expiration date - none, since none of the KA badges expire as far as I'm aware
evidence URL - Link to the users profile? Alternatively a link could be generated to fetch the required information about Badge ownership from the databanks, albeit that could potentially bypass privacy settings.
This is certainly not the only solution, but it seems the most straight-forward out of what I can think of right now.

They wouldn't even need to align with current khan academy badges. They could just be issued upon completion of any module.
I think openbadges can create gamification. There are many free services that allow badgr, ceedly delivery. I am trying to gather all the information about the openbadges. The openbadges are integraded in moodle, mahara, wordpress, joomla. Wikipedia make an extension.

I got a very similar opinion on Open Badges as all of you. And same as Daniel I think that Khan Academy would be a great example. Then badge system in Khan academy is exceptional. I hope there will be efforts on the export of badges soon.
I am looking into ways to apply open badges in vocational training. If anybody is with me on this topic, I would be very interested in an experience exchange!
