In what way would adding a friend make it so you could work together or chat in some way that you cannot do now?
Are you asking Khan Academy to add substantial new features to the website, such as new special challenges or new functionality that allows monitoring each other's progress? -
Better than a friend feature, there can be a new concept of finding people you would like to study with from around the world and then adding them as your study partners. ‘Friend’ seems to be a fragile concept as here we learn, not enjoyed, and we need study partners to learn together.

As we grow and expand, we continue to add new features to offer a better education on Khan Academy. However, implementing an "add a friend" feature is not a part of our roadmap at this time.
While we wish we could implement all of our users' requests, we need to make difficult decisions about which features and requests are aligned with our goals at the time.
I know that this probably isn’t the response you were looking for, but I hope you understand where we’re coming from.
