I'm taking biology at the community college, and it was moved online due to COVID. The change in learning style (Powerpoints and info sessions) isn't working for me. It's gotten to the point I've been thinking I'll have to drop (or fail) online classes (the first step to my dream of changing careers to become a nurse!) Thanks to Khan Academy and this professor's videos I have renewed confidence I can learn this material. It's infinitely easier.

Im in 10th grade and i just heard about AP exams my school do not offer these type of programs my school isn't so advanced but i love learning at home (self-learning), can i still take the exam with nothing to do with my school like i just go and apply, and where should i apply, and can you tell more about AP exams why it's important etc.. Last question does this course covers everything on AP biology i will be taking the exam next year

Hey Osama Al-Saadi, 

Yes you can take AP exams without instruction from teachers or school.To register for the AP exams you will have to wait till the beginning of the school year(around august). And you will also have to register on collegeboard.org After the school year starts you may get info regarding when the registration begins. And you will have to pay a certain fee to do the exams. 

AP exams are important because they can help a student gain college credit for that course. So it makes it easier for the student, because they wouldn't have to take those classes during college. Infact, the more you can take by the end of your high school career you the better. Oh and there is a scoring range for these tests, from 1-5.1 being not acceptable, and 5 being amazing. Depending on your score colleges will accept your scores(generally from 3,4, and 5s).

For your last question, to be honest, I don't know whether or not it would cover everything, but since Khan academy is connected with CollegeBoard(the company that hosts these exams) they should cover everything. If you feel like it is not covering the entire course I would suggest for you to go and look for other resources, like princeton review, for more info regarding this topic.

I'm an upcoming junior at my high school, and I didn't decide to request for the AP Biology course at my high school because I didn't have space in my schedule. Does the AP Biology course on Khan Academy cover everything that'll be covered on the AP exam in May? Along with that, are the practice tests and quizzes useful enough without having to purchase an AP Biology Practice Book?

Our AP Biology course includes instructional content covering the major topics that will be on the exam, along with exercises containing multiple choice practice questions. Units 1-6 have an exercise in every lesson, and we are working on adding exercises to Units 7 and 8 so that they are also complete.

We don't offer any free-response practice, but we do have videos of Sal working through some free response questions here. In addition, our multiple choice questions are designed to help you practice the thinking skills necessary for both the multiple choice and free-response portions of the exam.

Where do I find the basic stuff for intro college biology...atom Structure, molecules..covalent bonding..new student and new to KA...just trying to understand

If you want to review chemistry concepts like the ones you listed, I'd recommend checking out our AP Chemistry beta course, or our legacy AP Chemistry course. You can also check out the Chemistry of life unit in our AP Biology course for a more biology-focused take on chemistry concepts. You'll get a good idea of what is in each lesson based on its title. The "Elements of Life" questions are focused on chemical and nutrient cycles. They're useful for ecology, but the AP Biology standard about "Elements of Life" focuses on biochemistry, i.e. elements found in foundational macromolecules, polarity of macromolecules, ect.

Is there a timeline/schedule available to plan what should be done each day to complete the coursework?  Is this a full school-year course, approved by the college board as an AP class, or a course to help prepare for the AP exam?  Just wondering if this could be used in conjunction with my daughter's current biology program or if it would be this is a course in and of itself. Thank you!   Also, a suggestion for future updates, primarily to the discussion questions/comments...a search within this section may be helpful to prevent admins from answering the same question multiple times, and so the user doesn't have to search through the many comments to find an answer to their question.

The AP Biology course on Khan Academy is not approved by the College Board as a stand-alone class. Our course covers nearly all of the content included in the College Board's AP Biology Course and Exam Description, but it lacks certain areas that don't work well on our platform, such as the labs. So, our course is meant to be a supplemental tool, used in conjunction with an in-person class.

If your daughter is in a biology class and wants to take the AP exam at the end of the year, she can use our course to help supplement her in-class learning. Our AP Bio practice questions are in the style of the exam's multiple choice section, and we also have some videos of Sal working through AP Bio free-response questions, so both of these resources should be helpful.
