QHQ "Use Khan Academy's API to get the number of challenges completed within a specific computer programming curriculum" API....Academic Performance Index, right? @mbbackus....great question. I teach grade 8 math and algebra 1, so I don't know how student progress is tracked with the Khan Academy Computing courses. In the past, to create student progress reports I would go to the Class page. Then under the Settings tab, I would Download Student Data as a CSV file. Then I would open that in Excel and run a couple of macros that I created to make student progress reports that I could give to my students and/or send to parents, if needed. I think I could use filters and macros to generate what you are talking about.

Alternatively, doesn't Khan Academy give badges for completing "challenges"? I think the weekly Khan Academy Highlights report, may report if a students receives a badge for a challenge.

Third alternative: Is there a final screen that can be printed out or saved as a PDF? Then part of the class routine would be for the student to print out or upload the "evidence" of completion in a shared real or virtual portfolio folder.

Thanks for your response. Unfortunately, the spreadsheet that you can download does not include the number of challenges mastered. The badges are an okay way to go with the Intro to JS course, but the HTML/CSS course is only one badge. I don't want to wait a month or two to give students credit for the work they're doing, especially since many of them will start the course but never earn the badge. As for the printed PDF option - it's more cumbersome than my python/selenium script.

The reason I bring it up is because this is data that Khan Academy already tracks, it's just a matter of making it easily accessible either via download or through the API. I'd take either (I'm not picky). It would give teachers greater resolution when assigning grades.

To answer your question about API - it stands for Application Programming Interface.

It took awhile and I had to use Khan's internal API for which there is no documentation, but I was able to write a script that can grab data for challenges completed in any of the programming courses.
