I think it's a great idea too. But if you're using a Macbook you can turn on the Night Shift mode.

This is one of the most commonly-requested features on Khan Academy. I am having trouble understanding what night mode is. Can someone please direct me to a web site that gives screen shots (ideally including screen shots of Windows computers, iPads, and Android phones) of what dark mode looks like? Alternatively, directing me to a YouTube video showing this (again, ideally including tha above-mentioned platforms) would be great, too.

I am hearing so much about how desirable this feature is that I want to know what I may be missing out on in other apps/web sites and maybe how much better (or maybe not better) Khan Academy could be with it.

I have uploaded two photos that show what night mode basically for all OS's. These photo examples are of Apple iOS but the principle feature is the same across all devices. All the white goes to black and the text that is normally black gets changed to a different color. But the first picture is the setting on my phone that turns this invert(dark mode) on. The second is a picture that shows what happens when the colors get inverted on the screen. When I turn this setting on, my whole phone will look like this no matter what app I am in or what I am doing. Mac OS is getting this feature in it's next update coming out soon. Android and Windows have similar features, not sure about Ubuntu.

Thanks for posting these examples. I think my Android phone has this turned on, or at least my Google Maps app has it turned on. Last Friday afternoon, I had to get home from some place that was far enough away that it was going to be dark by the time I got home. Close to home, after dark, while waiting at a traffic light, I noticed that the map background was now black instead of white. And I've probably seen this before.

One thing I've noticed lately is that app developers don't want to include in an app the ability to control features that can be controlled within the operating system settings. Hence, orientation lock has been removed from at least two ebook reading apps, Kindle and OverDrive, on iOS because there's now such a lock in device settings (even though it would be preferable sometimes to have orientation lock set only for the app and not the whole device). I am guessing that the presence of a mute capability on handheld devices is the reason why the Khan Academy iOS and Android apps do not have the capability to mute the feedback sounds when a problem is answered correctly and when the whole practice, quiz, or test is finished. For the same reason, I suspect that Khan Academy has not added the night/dark mode option because devices have this capability.
