That's definitely an interesting idea! The only issue is that we would likely have to manually award badges to every user who submits an entry. Someone who makes a spin-off of the contest program but doesn't actually make an entry shouldn't get a badge.

For now, I think only awarding badges to winners is probably best, since it helps motivate contestants and creates a little friendly competition.
